The Orlando Sentinel is reporting more details about a horrific Interstate 4 rollover accident that claimed the life of a Lake Wales man and seriously injured two children. Unfortunately, it appears that a distracted driver caused the crash.

According to the Sentinel, the driver, Alejandra Gomez, was involved in a very heated argument with Jesse Torres, of Lake Wales, in the minutes leading up to the crash. Two children, aged 8 and 10, were also in the car. Apparently, Ms. Gomez became agitated and began to drive erratically. She lost control of her Pontiac Grand Prix and drove onto the soft shoulder of the road. When she tried to return to the roadway, she over-corrected, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Mr. Torres was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Ms. Gomez and the two children passengers were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
As an Orlando accident attorney, I have been talking a lot over the past couple of years about people being distracted by texting while driving, talking on cell phones, or surfing the internet on their smartphones while driving. While these forms of distracted driving probably get the most headlines, arguing while driving and other forms of significant interaction with passengers while driving is clearly also dangerous to drivers, passengers, and other motorists.

It is really pretty simple:  if you are feeling angry or seriously upset at someone, please don’t drive.

We could have had the light rail commuter train but it was axed by the personal injury attorneys because they were afraid it might impact their I-4 related personal injury lawsuits. Or so it was made to seem. 🤨
