The Associated Press is reporting that a DeLeon Springs man had been drinking when he ran a stop sign on Grand Avenue in DeLeon Springs and crashed into an SUV being driven by a younger (19-year old) DeLeon Springs man.

The drunk driver of the pickup truck, and a 22-year old woman riding as a passenger in the SUV were both tragically killed in the accident.  The driver of the SUV, and the drunk driver’s 17-year son, who was traveling as a passenger in the pickup with his father, were both injured and taken to Halifax Medical Center and Fish Hospital, respectively.

This is another tragic reminder of what can happen when alcohol and driving are combined. There is simply no excuse for not calling a friend or calling a cab if you are too drunk to drive.  The stakes are too high when a 4,000 lb. vehicle is involved.
