At least nine people were injured in an S.U.V. versus Lynx bus accident that happened at the corner of State Road 436 (Semoran Blvd.) and Banchory Road, in Winter Park, according to Central Florida News 13. Although Florida Highway Patrol troopers did not know the exact cause of the accident, there was a belief that the S.U.V. driver had been driving erratically before the crash.
At least five of the bus riders were taken to the hospital with injuries. I feel bad for folks – not only because they were injured through no fault of their own – but because they are likely going to have run into bigger challenges getting their medical bills paid, than most car accident victims.

Personal Injury Protection benefits are generally available to drivers and passengers of automobile to pay for medical bills arising from a car accident. None of the folks on this bus will be able to rely upon this kind of coverage to get their medical bills paid here because of an exclusion woven into Florida PIP policies. Hopefully, these folks will have group health or other coverage that will allow them to get the medical treatment they need. Unfortunately, we see plenty of hard-working people in our practice that do not have the luxury of group health benefits.
