Local media are offering conflicting information about a dog bite attack of a two-year-old that may make a huge difference in the child’s recovery.  However, there is no doubt about the fact that a pit bull was unprovoked when it attacked the child and bit his face and scalp badly enough that the child had to be taken to Intensive Care at the Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando.

Apparently, the child was visiting a family member in Port Orange when he was attacked. It is unclear from the reports whether the dog belonged to a neighbor or someone living in the relative’s home. As an Orlando accident attorney who has handled many dog bite cases, I am going to hope for the sake of this precious child that the dog belonged to a neighbor.

I say this because I hope the neighbor has homeowners insurance to respond to this very serious injury claim (normally a boarder would not have their own insurance policy). From the reporting, it sounds like this child is going to have tens — if not hundreds — of thousands of dollars in medical and plastic surgery expenses.
