Here is a tragic story out of Canaveral Groves, near Cocoa in Brevard County.  Apparently, at a family barbeque, Dustin Adkins was showing some friends one of his several guns.  The gun accidentally discharged, a bullet went through a wall in Mr. Adkins home, and hit a 13-year old girl in the back.  The young girl tragically succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

According to family friends, Mr. Adkins — who has children of his own — has historically always been careful with his guns.  Regardless, the nature of guns is that there is often not a second chance when an accident occurs.

As an Orlando accident attorney, I know that tragic accidents like this one will sometimes be covered by homeowner’s insurance.  Many people do not realize that homeowner’s insurance covers many negligent acts or omissions on the part of the homeowner or his or her family — as long as they are not automobile-related.
