Summer is only a few weeks away, but Bob and I, and our families, aren’t anticipating any lazy days ahead. We’ve been busy since our last newsletter (the primary reason you haven’t received an update in a while), and we don’t expect much relief over the summer (which is actually a great thing – when you are running a small business.
As a firm, we’ve been blessed to have a steady stream of new, wonderful clients come to our practice – most of them automobile accident cases. While car crash cases are still make up the majority of our caseload, we have recently resolved a significant negligent security/child sex abuse case, and also filed suit in another significant child sex abuse case in the Florida panhandle. We have also received a number of recent inquiries regarding fighting insurance denials for proton beam radiation therapy, following our success overturning a Medicare denial for patient who needed proton beam therapy to fight his prostate cancer. Bob and I both feel fortunate to be able to put our skills and talents to use helping people with a variety of legal challenges.
As followers of our firm and newsletter know, Bob and I believe it is very important for our firm to remain involved and active in our local community.
So far this year, Cullen & Hemphill, PLC has been honored to sponsor: the 9th Annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Baldwin Park (benefitting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention), the 8th Annual Fiddler’s Green 5K in Winter Park (benefitting Habit for Humanity Winter Park-Maitland and Conductive Education Center of Orlando), and the 3rd Annual Running of the Chihuahuas in Winter Park (benefitting Winter Park Lost Pets and Cause 4 Paws Pet Rescue.) Of course we can’t forget Bob and Julie’s phenomenal efforts and success with the 9th Annual Doggie Derby in Baldwin Park (benefitting the food pantry at Audubon Park Elementary School.
At home, our kids have kept us busy (as always.) In the Cullen household, Jack had another successful semester at the University of Florida, conquering his toughest semester yet in the Warrington School of Business. Burns was accepted into the University of Florida, and will start classes there as a Freshman at the end of June. Burns also had a successful Senior lacrosse season, serving as a Team Captain, and also receiving the Coaches Award for leadership. Grace continued her success grinding her way through the Winter Park High School IB program, and Luke continued to excel with band, lacrosse, and his new love – guitar. At Boone High School, in Orlando, Weeze continued helping students fulfill their college admissions dreams – including several students who were accepted at Ivy League institutions.
The Hemphills have also had an exciting start to 2016. Julie and Bob had the opportunity to take a weekend trip to Louisville for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby. This was somewhat of a “full-circle” experience for Julie and Bob as the Doggie Derby event they started 9 years ago was originally inspired by Kentucky Derby function they we were attending in Baldwin Park. Since that day, Bob and Julie had been waiting for an opportunity to see the real thing. The pageantry of the Derby exceeded their expectations.
Lindsay and Allie continued to the feature of a lot of family activities – from playing in the park, to attending a Spring Training baseball game, to a big 3rd Birthday party for Allie, and finally, end of pre-school year celebrations.
