A 15-year old basketball player was tragically killed, and five other children injured, in a rollover accident on Interstate 95 in Melbourne last Sunday. Apparently, all of the boys were in an S.U.V. traveling home from a basketball tournament when one of the tires on the vehicle blew, causing the driver to lose control.
As an Orlando accident attorney and father of four of my own children, my heart goes out to the parents of this young man. After handling a number of wrongful death cases involving children in car accidents in my practice, I know that there is nothing more traumatic for a family than the loss of a child.
It goes without saying that rollover accidents are always dangerous. Rollovers can be caused by a number of factors, but many times problems with tires serve as a ticking time bomb. Many times used or re-treaded tires are sold that are not fit for use on Florida’s roads. Here is a video we shot last summer on this topic:
If the family of the young man who died has any suspicions at all that a tire defect contributed to causing this tire blowout, I hope they will consult with an experienced Florida personal injury lawyer.
